Cape Flats Represented at the Olympics
Irafaan Abrahams handing Shahiem Rogers a pair of running shoes
Shahiem Rogers, the young man from Mountview High School in Hanover Park, who was selected to represent South Africa as our torch-bearer at the Olympic Torch Relay in Nottingham, United Kingdom at the end of June received a brand new pair of running shoes from IrfaanSquared.com's very own Marathon Man, Irafaan Abrahams. Irafaan who ran the New York Marathon in 2011, wished Rogers well and gave him the new pair of branded running shoes as a gift and a gesture of goodwill. Rogers will not be the only Capeflats resident at the London Olympics. On Saturday evening, in an interview on Radio 786 Sportsdesk programme, swimmer Achmat Hassiem all but confirmed that he will be part of the Paralympic swimming squad in London. Hassiem, from Strandfontein, will be leaving for a swimming tournament in Berlin in the next week, but he also confirmed that after the Berlin event, he will be linking up with the rest of the Olympic swimming squad for a training camp in Monaco. The swimmers will be based at the residence of Princess Charlene of Monaco, the former Charlene Wittstock, a former SA Olympian herself.
